In March, 2017, we were pleased to welcome Carí Jackson Lewis, Esq. to our team at Terri Hilliard, PC, as a Legal Extern. At the time, Carí had already returned to Loyola Law School’s Master of Laws (LL.M., Taxation) Program. Now we’re happy to report that Carí recently completed the program and is expected to be admitted to the California State Bar Association in January 2018.This is only the latest chapter in her journey. Carí was admitted to the New York Bar in 1996, and practiced in the fields of estate planning and probate, estate litigation, elder law, special needs law and planned giving.She took this latest turn in her career path because she wanted to pursue her “first love,” estate planning, which she sees as her calling. “We are the people who take care of the family,” she says. “We have to understand the connections between human activity and business.”Carí brings with her a wide range of expertise from her previous legal experience. She is a proven, skilled practitioner and an extraordinary legal talent, who will serve our clients’ needs very well.Over the past 20 years, Carí has been involved in a number of practice areas, including estate planning and probate, estate litigation, elder law, special needs law, and planned giving. She has worked with prestigious law firms in New York and London. She has also been active in philanthropy management and consulting in Melbourne, Australia and special education programs in the San Fernando Valley.Carí earned her undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College and her law degree from Fordham Law School. At Fordham, she was the editor of the Mentor Metropolitan Moot Court Competition for New York City high school students, an oralist in the J. Braxton Craven, Jr. National Constitutional Law Moot Court Competition, and a summer law clerk for a United States Federal District Court judge.Carí earned her LL.M. with distinction and was the Graduate Tax Program President of the Loyola Law School Tax Law Society (2016-17). In addition to her license with the New York Bar, she is a member of the American Bar Association, Dartmouth Lawyers Association, and the Fordham Law School Alumni Association.Please say hello to Carí next time you’re in the office — she’d love to get to know you.
